Dr. Ajay Choksey

Dr. Ajay Choksey is a distinguished Gastroenterologist from Ahmedabad in Gujarat. He is currently working at VEDANTA Institute of Medical Sciences in Ahmedabad.

Post completing MBBS from PDU Medical College in Rajkot, Dr. Choksey accomplished MD in General Medicine from Gujarat University in 2009. His  All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination ranking was 432. In 2014, he added degree of DM in Gastroenterology which he pursued from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. He secured 99% in Step 1 and Step 2 of USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination).

During his decade old practice, he has worked with some prestigious hospitals which include Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad as Junior Resident of Internal Medicine and Rotating Internship House Officer, BJ Medical College & Civil Hospital as Senior Resident- Internal Medicine, and Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College & Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital as Resident in Gastroenterology and Medical Officer in the Department of Gastroenterology. 

Below mentioned are few brief summary of papers presented by Dr. Choksey

1. Gastric Mucosal biopsies in patients with Helicobacter Pylori infection- LTMMC&LTMGH, Sion Mumbai 2011

Study was carried out on patients attending the Gastroenterology OPD in a tertiary level Hospital. It was carried out to ascertain the gastric mucosal biopsy findings in patients with Helicobacter pylori infection.

2. A Prospective unicentric study of the prevelance of infections in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis- LTMMC&LTMGH, Sion Mumbai 2013

It was carried out to assess the prevalence of infections in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis admitted at a tertiary care centre in Western India and to compare the clinical features, biochemical parameters, and stage of cirrhosis between  patients who had infection and those who did not.

3. IRIS-Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome in HIV-1 infected patients- Dissertation for MD (Medicine), Gujarat University, India 2009

A study carried out on the profile of patients who developed IRIS after starting HAART. It was a study for submission in the Gujarat University for obtaining eligibility for the MD medicine final examination. 50 HIV positive patients who developed IRIS were studied. Various manifestations and various other parameters noted. This study noted that a majority of patients who developed IRIS had very low CD4 counts with a majority having IRIS manifestations of TB.

4. Diabetic autonomic neuropathy- detection by a new device, Gujarat University, India 2009

A study was carried out to assess utility of a new device ANSiscope which is used to measure and detect Diabetic Autonomic Neuropathy on 24 patients. Results of the device were compared with the golden standard of time tested battery of autonomic tests. 

The device was found to be useful and convenient for identifying and quantifying autonomic neuropathy. Results of this study were presented as a poster in the (Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India) RSSDI 2009 conference. Study persuaded the Department of Medicine to buy the ANSiscope.

A passionate swimmer, Dr. Choksey also has a passion for debate on the topics related to his domain. He participated in the Times of India Public speaking competition and reached regional rounds.
